Julie Shepherd is a Ceramic Artist specializing in pierced and translucent porcelain.
Included in the many awards she has won for her porcelain art is the Memento- QLD Merchandise Awards, Lord Mayor's prize for best entry in 2002, 2001 and distinction in 2005. The 2002, 2003 and 2004 Ipswich Annual Arts Awards, prize for works in 3D. The 2002 Stanthorpe Arts Festival ceramics prize. Pine Rivers Art Award Major overall art prize in 2003. Her artwork is held in regional gallery Collections as well as numerous private collections.
Julie uses her fine porcelain artwork to express the fragility of the natural environment and human existence. The piercing was inspired from looking at electron microscope illustrations of the lacey structures within nature. The outward appearance of the porcelain is of fragility; however the work has immense inner strength.
