Julie runs a busy & well respected studio in Newport. Amongst her clientel are Luxury Brand Corporations, Graphic Designers, Event Managers, Film Directors, Artists, Photographers, Government & private collectors. Her work has been presented to Prime Ministers and to her Majesty the Queen. She has studied various fine arts subjects, including printmaking, painting & life drawing. As well as specialized allied arts in calligraphy, typography, bookbinding and traditional Turkish marbling.
Her extensive knowledge of lettering, love of art & teaching combines to form a unique and exciting learning experience for students.
All workshops will run from 9am - 4pm.

Always wanted to learn calligraphy but didn’t know where to start? This 2 day workshop is a perfect introduction to the art of beautiful writing. Students will learn how to cut and use a chiseled reed pen, along with many tips and tricks using modern calligraphy style dip pens & ink. Two scripts will be explored…the 4th century Uncial hand, and the modern Neuland hand, and students will have the opportunity to complete several fun projects.

Contemporary exploration of 3D and more unusual book forms will be the emphasis of this fun filled and creative 2 day workshop. A variety of tools and media will be used to create contemporary gestural forms and movements on paper inspired by nature. These papers will then be used as the basis for creating individual artists books. All will only require folding, cutting, gluing and /or simple stitching. STUDENT LEVY - $5 pay at class

Inspired by the beautiful historical manuscripts within The Abbey collection, and similar models from books, students will learn how to design and paint illuminated and decorated initials using gold leaf and gouache. The use of vellum, as found in manuscripts and books of old, will be discussed and explored, with the opportunity for students to create their own decorated calf vellum bookmark, and an illuminated initial on paper suitable for framing.
